These are the bike carriers that are fixed onto the back of a vehicle. Although they are often sold as "universal" carriers they should be considered to be "car specific" which means that they should only be used if they have been specifically approved for use on a particular vehicle.
Great care is always required when using these carriers - they can be dangerous if fitted incorrectly, quite apart from likely tailgate damage.
None of the rear mount carriers we sell has straps which pass over the bumper and therefore prevent the tailgate being lifted when the bike carrier is fitted - this is a common and exasperating feature of many carriers of this type!

Hang on racks
Price range: low to mid
Not suitable for heavy bikes, eBikes or carbon frames as the bikes are secured to the rack by the bike frame.
Bikes are not locked to the rack. We recommend purchasing a cable lock separately to secure your bikes.
Lighting board required.
Platform racks
Price range: mid to high
More stable as the bikes are secured by wheel straps and the frame holder.
Bikes are locked to the rack.
Lighting board usually not required.
Vehicle Suitability
Rear mounting racks should only be used if they have been specifically approved for use on a particular vehicle. If you are considering changing your vehicle in the next few years, be aware that the rack may not be suitable for the new vehicle.
