It sounds like you don't have enough clearance around the wheel arch to be able to fit a conventional snow chain on your vehicle (this can mean different things to different cars - sometimes there isn't enough space between the inside of the tyre and the inner wing, other times there are vulnerable shock absorbers, struts, or brake pipes, and sometimes the chain prevents electronic sensing equipment from working properly).
We usually have a selection of alternatives available. They have all been designed so they can't cause any damage to your car and the Polaire, K-summit and Spikes Spider are a suitable alternative to convention chains if you are driving in the Alps. The Spikes Spider Alpine and Sport (not the 'easy' version) snow chains involve fitting a plate (attaching to the wheel nuts) before you depart. Once you have fitted this plate the chains are very easy to mount when you come to use them. The Polaire, K-summit and Spikes Spider Easy chains also attach over a wheel nut, they are easy to fit as long as you have practiced at home. You don't need to fit a plate before you use these chains.
It is often possible to re-size the Spikes Spider Sport chains and a comprehensive spare parts program is available. It is not possible to re-size the Inno, Polaire, K-summit or Spikes Spider Alpine chains and they will fit a more limited range of tyre sizes.
AutoSock is a good option for many people and may also be used in France (as well as all other EU countries, Switzerland and many more) as an equivalent snow chain product where it is mandatory to carry chains.
